What are Lip Fillers?

This injectable treatment using hyaluronic acid is used to enhance the volume, shape, and symmetry of your lips. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in your joints and skin, acting as a cushion and lubricant. We only use soft, high quality products that integrate and move with your own tissues. Premium product selection, a fine eye for detail and a “less is more” approach is what sets Dr Rebecca apart when it comes to lip filler treatment.

Why choose our clinic for Lip Fillers?

1. Natural Results: Each treatment is tailored to your goals for a look that enhances your natural beauty. Our lead clinician, Dr Rebecca Ngo, has developed a strict lip filler protocol to avoid unnatural “duck lip” results.

2. Comfort: Lips are very sensitive areas to have treatment. We provide the option of a strong, prescription numbing cream and/or a dental block to ensure the procedure is as comfortable as possible. There is also a numbing agent in the filler itself which adds to patient comfort.

3. Quality: We use only high quality hyaluronic acid-based fillers administered by a highly trained medical professional.

4. Safety: Our lip filler protocol was developed following years of training and research with safe practice and gentle techniques being a key pillar. We only use hyaluronic acid lip fillers that can be dissolved in the case of an adverse event.

5. Longevity: Results last upwards of 6 - 12 months and products can be layered, giving you flexibility for future adjustments.

6. Honesty: You are unlikely to require filler “top ups” every 6 months - we will guide you during future filler appointments, only layering additional filler where appropriate and will advise if dissolution of old filler will lead to a better result. Our patients over the years have thanked us for our honesty and guidance.

What happens during a Lip Filler appointment?

1. Consultation: Your lip filler journey begins with a detailed consultation to discuss your treatment goals. We will establish if you are a suitable candidate for this treatment.  We will run through all risks and benefits of treatment, including any appropriate combination treatments for your consideration. We may advise you to take some time to consider your discussed treatment plan and will reschedule your next appointment.

2. Preparation: Please arrive to your appointment with no makeup. We will confirm there has been no recent changes to your medical history. We will take some photographs as part of your medical record. Your preferred numbing agent will be applied/administered. The treatment area will be disinfected prior to treatment.

3. Treatment: The soft filler is expertly layered in the lips with a fine needle or cannula. The procedure typically takes 20-30 minutes.

4. Aftercare: We will discuss the aftercare with you. You may experience mild swelling, redness, or bruising, which usually subsides within a few days. Applying ice and avoiding strenuous activities can help reduce these effects. If you have any concerns following any treatment, please contact the clinic.

Would I benefit from Lip Fillers?

Lips that have lost volume due to genetic and lifestyle factors (such as smoking) can have an ageing effect on a patient. Subtle volume replacement with lip filler can restore and enhance lips; leaving them plumper and more hydrated. Lip filler can also help with fine lines around the lips that are often associated with “lipstick bleeding/spreading”.

Lip filler can also help enhance and restore symmetry to lips that may be top/bottom heavy. We can create definition to the cupid’s bow leading to a more beautiful pout. We always tailor our treatment plan to create balanced proportions in line with each individual’s natural features. In combination with muscle relaxing injections, lip filler may be included in your plan to treat a gummy smile.

  • Volume replacement
  • Hydration
  • Soften fine lines around the mouth
  • Side profile balancing
  • Asymmetry correction
  • Cleft lip restoration

FAQs about Lip Fillers

Are lip fillers safe?

All injectable treatments carry inherent risks. However, lip fillers are safe when administered by trained professionals. We use high-quality products and follow strict safety protocols to ensure safe, natural results.

Will the treatment hurt?

Most patients experience minimal discomfort. We use a strong, prescription numbing cream to ensure the procedure is as comfortable as possible. Our clinical lead is a highly experienced dentist who can administer a dental block upon request. Apart from the initial discomfort of the dental injection, the rest of the procedure will be completely pain free. There is also a numbing agent in the filler itself which adds to patient comfort.

How long do results last?

Lip fillers typically last upward of 6–12 months. Factors such as metabolism, lifestyle, and the specific filler used can influence the duration. We will always advise against additional filler at subsequent visits if it would result in an unnatural, overfilled result long term.

What is the recovery time?

Most patients return to daily activities immediately. Swelling, bruising and redness may occur but usually subsides within a few days. If you are unsure or concerned about your healing process, please contact the clinic.

Will my lips look natural?

Absolutely. Our lip filler protocol focuses on subtle enhancements that align with your facial features, ensuring your results are beautifully natural.

Can fillers fix uneven lips?

Yes, fillers are an excellent option for correcting asymmetry, creating a balanced and harmonious appearance. Dr Rebecca will examine your face to ensure that enhancing your lips does not take away from your existing natural features.

What about a gummy smile?

Lip fillers can adjust the upper lip’s position to minimise gum exposure, giving you a more confident and natural-looking smile. However, we may advise you of alternative or combination treatments with muscle relaxing injections to avoid an overfilled top lip.

Can fillers be dissolved?

Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved in adverse events, migration, over-treatment or unfavourable aesthetic results. It is up to the clinician’s discretion whether they will dissolve or reverse treatment carried out by someone else. Please contact the clinic in the case of emergency adverse events like a vascular occlusion (even if treatment was carried out elsewhere) and we will try our best to offer help.

Can lip fillers cause cold sores?

Lip fillers themselves do not cause cold sores. However, if you have a history of cold sores, getting lip fillers may potentially trigger a cold sore outbreak. It is essential to let us know during your consultation as we may prescribe an antiviral medication to take before and/or after the procedure to reduce the risk of an outbreak.

Are there any restrictions?
  • Lip fillers and other aesthetic treatments are not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  • Please let us know of any allergies during your consultation (eg: bee/wasp stings) as it may impact your treatment plan.
  • Aesthetic treatments at our clinic are only carried out on adults over the age of 18. We may request a form of ID which will form part of your medical record. Exceptions may be made for certain cases [eg: hyperhidrosis, migraines, TMD (grinding/clenching), cleft lip restorations] where proposed treatment is deemed appropriate for improving a patient’s overall health and/or quality of life.
